Loving kindness: A way of life.

Updated: Mar 7, 2024

Let's dive right into this one shall we!?

Paul the apostle made some bold statements. One of those statements that I really like was when he was confronting Peter. He told him, among a few other things that a person is made right with God through faith in Jesus, not by obeying the law.

Imagine someone telling you these words, “You don’t have to obey the law anymore.” What would you do? Would you rob a bank, would you run red lights for fun, would you go into a convenience store and steal all the snickers you wanted? We don’t have to obey the law, so I can pretty much do what I want and everything goes here.

In the case of Christ, the answer is, we’re no longer under the law, but we do follow God. If you read the Gospels and you look at that character of Jesus, he was always doing good for people. Always feeding them and healing them. Always teaching people a better way, internal reflection and to perform good external actions. He taught us to love our neighbor, go the extra mile, feed the hungry, be gentle and humble. Those are just a few of the countless teachings Jesus spoke and demonstrated to everyone that had the chance to walk and talk with him. While Jesus was here he kept the law, but his attitude, his heart, how he treated people, him being so loving towards others, kind and giving, humble and polite. These were all clear signs and examples of how he wants us to treat others after we were freed from the law and brought over into grace.

God freed us from the law. Not so we can break the rules and create chaos, but so that while living in grace we can get closer to God, and so that our hearts can be filled with love and goodness so that we can spread that love and goodness all over the world, and we accomplish that by starting off with the people around us. Doing right by others, following Christ’s example and spreading love, sharing the good news of The Gospel; these are all blessings and opportunities God gives us daily which we want to take advantage of.

So that should be a clear indicator of some of the things you can do with that freedom you’ve been given. Let your hearts be so filled with the love of God that doing good for the people around you becomes a joy of life.

God bless!
